In fact, I didn't know who she was at the time. Ian Moss must have sought her out to sing on the song based on the doco. Still, it's pretty odd that Joan Osborne of all people should be such a good soul singer after that "One of Us" song -- I had her pegged as one of those singer-songwriter types who are into "self-expression" rather than decent songcraft. I have seen Standing in the Shadows of Motown, which I enjoyed immensely, but I competely forgot Joan Osborne was in it. In fact, I didn’t know who she was at the time.

But I must say, if you'd seen the brilliant doco on The Funk Brothers "Standing in the Shadows of Motown" you wouldn't be saying "oddly enough" in regards to Joan Osborne.
