[...] won’t post the whole story obviously, but there are two translations online—here and here—or you can read it in the New Yorker (if you have a subscription) where it ran in 1971. [...]

Thank you soooo much for posting this translation! It is much better done than any computer-translated version I have seen of this story, and helped me immensely in writing my final Spanish paper. I am so glad I found this!

Thanks Alan.

I've heard Theroux read the story as well and quite enjoyed it. I'm quite a fan of Theroux, at least his travel writing. In The Old Patagonian Express, Theroux actually meets Borges and reads to him! I think he reads Kipling, which is one of Borges' favourite writers.

Thanks for this. Just listened to the Theroux reading on the New Yorker website, and found some things missing, I thought. You seem to've caught some of them. I appreciate it,

Well, I don't know how good a translation it actually is considering I just fixed up a couple of things since you made the comment.

But thanks.

Thanks for the translation, it's well done and very engaging! Much more sphisticated and accurate than the others that I've found online. I'm also glad youu decided to post it so recently; it's definitely helping with my Spanish assignment.
